Weekend Sports and Announcer Heaven?

Originally posted on "The Radioaffliction" on 9/25/04

What would the weekend be without sports, and one of the ways I prepare for my Sunday football, is looking at the Friday USA TODAY and going over the football previews and seeing what games get which announcers. This is very important, almost as important as the game itself. Now in my case for the Packers game, we will have the #1 team from FOX of Joe Buck, Chris Collinsworth, and Troy Aikman. The importance of this is, this should be a game between two good teams, The Packers and the Colts. However if things happen to go wrong in my case, at least there is good announcers to enjoy. Having a bad game and bad announcers is like a double whammy, unless you know ahead of time the game is going to be bad(another reason why I look at the previews). The point I'm really trying to get at here, is that the announcers should fit the matchup. In this example FOX did a good job.
CBS is been having a tougher time with their #1 crew of Jim Nantz,Phil Simms and Bonnie Bernstein(Please Marry Me). Last week they had the Cleveland Browns at the Dallas Cowboys. Not saying these are bad teams, it's just not a marquee match up for a talented crew, and quite frankly it was a horrible game. This week the #1 crew gets those same Browns again at the New York Giants!?! So I'm left to ask why this is the #1 game of the week for CBS!!!!!!
I went through my little preview on the USA TODAY and found four games that were better match ups and better for the sanity of poor Mr.Nantz, Simms and Ms. Bernstein(meet me in Vegas). Even the match up of (0-2)Houston and (0-2)Kansas City is better, San Diego at Denver, Baltimore at Cincinnati(although this is almost even with Browns/Giants) and HELLO Jacksonville (2-0) at Tennessee (1-1)!!!!! A division rival and possible playoff match up. So by CBS thinking, the Browns/Giants is a possible Super Bowl match up???????
